The Challenge

Poptastic is a fun and creative dance school based in Surrey. They cater for all ages of pupils, from 3-18 years. Their aim is to build children’s confidence and enable them to make new friendships in an inclusive and nurturing environment. In a testing Covid-19 climate bringing a lot of uncertainty and tight budgets, Poptastic wanted to use the time to look at ‘refreshing’ their logo.

The brief was to inject life and excitement back into a dated logo, however it was important for them to not lose their identity completely with existing followers.


Our solution

To us it was clear that under the given strict budgets and the market positioning the strategy for Poptastic was to look at a ‘brand refresh’ rather than a total rebrand. This involved looking at a new modern font and a vibrant colour palette. In order to preserve elements of the old logo we kept the ‘star’ and moved it away from covering some of the characters so that the name can be read clearly.

The important thing to remember about a brand refresh, is that everything is done on the surface. It’s like coming home to a flat that has a new lick of paint, and new furniture – the feel is different, but the underlying structure remains the same.

With this in mind the new colours and logo were applied to the existing website, social media and a poster developed to put up in local halls. The benefit of this brand refresh did not involve extensive consultations, it was mainly about making subtle changes in a reasonable timeframe with less risk than a total overhaul.

With a few small tweaks we were able to make the logo really ‘pop’, making it look modern and fresh, while still retaining the kep elements the client wanted to keep.
